Tablet Computers to  Improve the Efficiency of Data Collection Process

Donation of a stock of Tablet computers to Hector Kobbekaduwa Agrarian Research and Training Institute by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) took place at Hector Kobbekaduwa Agrarian Research and Training Institute On Monday 15^th October 2018.

As the national level service provider of FAO’s project on Building the Basis for Implementing the Save and Grow Approach – Regional Strategies on Sustainable and Climate-Resilient Intensification of Cropping Systems, Hector Kobbekaduwa Agrarian Research and Training Institute (HARTI) received tablet computers in order to make field level data collection process more efficient manner.  This offer was made in accordance with the agreement made between two institutions in this particular project.

The Assistant Representative (Program) of FAO – Sri Lanka Office Dr. Dharmassree Wijeratne officially handed over the tablet computers  to Mr. K. Udage, the Director of Hector Kobbekaduwa Agrarian Research and Training Institute.

This move in digitizing data collection process of HARTI, allows the statistical staff and field enumerators to perform their duties more efficiently and effectively. Further, the research team will be benefited in saving time and resources as additional work on questionnaire editing, data encryption or coding and data processing need not to be done when digitized or electronic versions of questionnaires are used in data collection.   . The database is automatically created while the data is collected using the tablets, so that within the shortest possible time, researchers will be able to use the data needed for further analytical work.
